Fragment
January 26th - February 16th 2007

Fragment is a new installation that incorporates images from varied sources, including the artist’s surroundings, contemporary news footage as well as historical footage or war, and images found on the Internet. Ihara calls the exhibition “contemporary poetry through video” and says it is his attempt to recreate the contemporary perception of the world.

Originally from Tokyo, Ihara lives in New York City. His work explores the intricate overlay of time and visual perception within immersive video environments. He has worked in animation, live action video, video performance and hybrid digital media. Ihara has exhibited with the “Currents” group in Santa Fe while in residence at the Art and Science Laboratory, where he worked with Steina and Woody Vasulka. He holds a BFA from the Cornish College of the Arts and an MFA from Alfred University. He has received fellowships from the New York Foundation of the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts.
