THIS IS TO SHOW YOU THE TRUTH (part 1):
EXIT 5B
February 23rd - March 23rd 2007

What do Hugh Hefner, some basement stairs, a stray shoe, a dead woman's wig, a missing chin and a discarded electric football game have to do with a young man on the far end of puberty? THIS IS TO SHOW YOU THE TRUTH Part 1: Exit 5B, a new video installation by filmmaker and moving image arts faculty member Brad Wolfley, in which the artist aspires to connect these dots and more. The installation, an animated investigation that is part memoir and part fiction what the filmmaker calls - "friction" - attempts to uncover the truth behind the mysterious life of Harvey Sinclaire Gypsy Moth. The collection of short musings, based on Wolfley's drawings and journal entries, is narrated by Harvey Sinclaire, who is both an animated character and the viewer.

"Most of my work has been more conventional narrative, in terms of its presentation, meaning that it plays on one screen," Wolfley explains. "For my installation in the MOV-iN Gallery, I had the opportunity to experiment with form and space, to create a three-dimensional, immersive environment. The intimacy of the space functions as a metaphor for the way I've conceived this work."

Brad Wolfley earned his MFA in visual arts at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he later taught courses in film and video production. An award-winning editor, he has worked on projects for HBO, MTV and Nickelodeon, as well as acclaimed documentary and narrative films. His personal work extends from short narratives to documentaries and experimental pieces for which he has received numerous awards including a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Wolfley's work has been screened extensively in festivals throughout the United States and abroad. Wolfley also holds an MA in liberal studies from Rutgers University.
